With recent Government-backed accreditation by the British Business Bank of part of the STAR Group, CBILs asset finance on Own Book has become a viable and workable option for many…
Leasing and asset finance is in my blood. It is my long-term passion for the sector that made me want to be part of the STAR Asset Finance management team and also an investor in the business. I was delighted to be offered the role of Chairman and continue my involvement in supporting the country’s SMEs to grow and flourish. I enjoy working with the management teams to deliver the group strategy.
I am a big believer in alignment of interests and our model of allowing our management teams to invest in the group alongside investors means that management, shareholders and investors have the same ultimate goal.
I have over 30 years of experience in the sector, latterly as Managing Director of Five Arrows Leasing which I started in 1988 and retired from in 2014. The Five Arrows group was made up of six niche businesses including asset-based finance, specialist contract hire, equipment finance and back office administration support for financial businesses.
Apart from an early stint in the fashion sector, where I stylishly trained as an accountant with Levis Strauss & Co, I’ve spent my entire working life in the leasing and asset finance sector. Starting with Hertz Car Leasing in the 1970s and subsequently moving to become Managing Director of United Financial Services, the first computer leasing company to be floated on the stock exchange.
Between 2002 and 2014 I was involved with Finance and Leasing Association (FLA), taking the Chairman role from 2005 to 2007. The FLA is the leading trade body for the asset, consumer and motor finance sectors in the UK, and the largest organisation of its kind in Europe.
When I am not at work, I can be found on the golf course, or hanging out with my grand-daughter.
